21st Century Learning Skills

One of my assignments in my Technology mini-course was using these 21st Century Learning Skills Maps (P21 Skills Maps) to create a mock assignment for students. While I don't have a classroom of students, I still like to think of these assignments as adaptable to a museum audience.

These maps are based around the idea that 21st Century learning revolves around:

  • Creativity
  • Critical Thinking
  • Collaboration
  • Communication

With that in mind, I used the 21st Century Skills Map for the Arts to build my assignment. Using the INNOVATION aspect, I chose the assignment under the 8th grade tab below and made tweaks to it.

In my assignment, students would work in groups to create a video on the potential narrative behind a work of art in the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston permanent collection. Each individual student would upload the multimedia project to YouTube as a public video on their channel. Students would then be require to turn in a 2-page reflection on their overall experience with the group, including a description of their personal contribution to the project.
